I could touch you,
I could love you,
But you were never there.

I could talk to you,
I could laugh with you,
But you were never there.

I could yell at you,
I could scream at you,
But you were never there.

I couldn’t trust you,
I couldn’t believe you,
Because you were never there.

I couldn’t confide in you,
I couldn’t live with you,
Because you were never there.

I couldn’t look up to you,
I couldn’t admire you,
Because you were never there.

You couldn’t give up your life style,
So you were never there for me,
If you don’t give it up just for awhile,
I will end up hating you for all eternity,
If you’re willing to make amends,
Please, Dad, come talk to me.

This brought tears to my eyes. I know my son has felt the same about his father, what a sad situation to be in. If it is any consulation, one day he will realize his mistake.

I thought this was very powerfully written - you can feel the frustration and the longing.

Yes, any unwilling separation from a parent is hard. I feel for the person in the poem.
