While following the river course The margin of error is small And one witnesses true remorse When the former water line falls. Whether by path, wood, or lane Parallel to the arc of a curve The point of connection is the same If one claims a purpose to serve. Not bargained, altered or distressed The path does suffer to defend Rights of travelers which are pressed Pointing towards the journeys end. Conveyed by water currents swift One looks forward and cannot choose Yet while walking the mind does drift Confirmed so, but does not confuse. And rivers into streams do flow So soon shallow and constricted And though the route by land is slow A future can be predicted. I have searched for a right of way And prefer earth under my feet And though shifting rafts never stay Our time will sooner end or meet. While white water may travel fast By foot the distance is the past. |
