Love, Ego, and a bit of Schizophrenia Act I - Scene I [Andy] Good morrow Nathaniel, how do’st thou? [Nathaniel] The day is fine but my heart is empty. [Andy] Do you not enjoy being a bachelor? [Nathaniel] That is the trouble. It seems I can’t be Happy in either state or frame of mind. For now I am content to be alone. [Andy] Desire you not the love of a woman? [Nathaniel] I do but I don’t, so now I am free. And what a freedom it is, you know it? [Andy] I have been so ‘free’ my entire life. But how could I know how lucky I am If I have not had love of a woman? You say it is so nice to be alone, So why can’t I enjoy it while I can? [Nathaniel] Perhaps I know you all too well my friend. The only time you like to talk of this Is when you do fancy a certain girl. Do tell my friend, you must b’cause I now know. Your silence is underwhelming, please speak. [Andy] If you must know, my heart is lost with Becki. [Nathaniel] I once agian have proven to be right. O Andrew I can read you like a book. So if your heart does long for this Becki, Pursue her now and know my freedom. [Andy] Why do you say such things against women? [Nathaniel] The last one I did try to woo was wrong. She constantly wanted all of my time, She did not have a girlfriend to cry to, And so instead she cried upon poor me. I say this not to discorage you from This noble goal, but to instead warn you. For love is but a beast that prowls around And seeks to make the strongest men so weak. Go off and woo but always thing of this, Being alone does also have its bliss. exit [Andy] Why cannot he make my job easier. Blast! Here comes the maiden Becki now. Becki [Becki] Good day Andrew, and how are you doing? [Andy] I happen to be alright for now. Please tell me how has you day been? [Becki] It’s good, I have something that I must ask. I wished to go sweet Jeannie’s tonight, But am without a suitable escort. Would you care to join me? [Andy] Why yes. I would always enjoy the company of one so pleasing, pleasant as yourself. I do believe I know the way, but may have to wait a while for my transportation. Do you still wish to go with me or shall I allow another sir the honor of escorting you to Jeannie’s gathering tonight? [Becki] You will suit me well, just work on your speech. [Andy] That I will do my lady. I will see you when the clock strikes seven. Good day till then. [Becki] And I wish you a good day as well. exit [Andy] How fortunate am I that she would come to me. She is more lovely than I ever thought. I just wish that my fluent speech would work When she is in my presense. O Cupid, Why does you arrow not only cause love But a stupidity as well. Be gone. I fear you may be right Nathaniel. Unfortunately no warning could work On me in my present state of being. If when I am with Becki I am lost, I hope that I will ne’er be found again. |

A wonderful work in progress. I would very much like to see the continuation, if at all possible. Alicat |

What woeful look doth lovers ply when truth and logic do deny, and grasping faintly at hearts quite slim do lose their grasp and fall straight in; for dire confusion, mass and grave, hath claimed the lives of many a knave. I ask only if there will be more...such a story...I've never written a play about life, a play about lovers, a play at all. I am inspired to take this into my own perspective and write my own... Nicely done, but perhaps you should edit your work for errors. ------------------ She walks in silence and waits in shadow. She is my lady and my angel. |

An interesting piece, you might want to work on the switch from blank verse to prose to be more obvious, but a funny scene. |
