"Eve II" is the second of a trilogy
about the wives (of Adam,
Cain and Seth,) who were
the initial women refered
to in the book of Genesis.

Eve II

I know the beasts with cloven shoes
their cud to ruminate,
some either claw or fang can choose
the slower decimate.
Seeing the dragons of the air
that snatch a child at play,
I fear the mammoths with red hair
trampling all in their way.
These I know well, each one I fear
but none do I dread more
than he the beast, residing here
whose offspring oft I bore.
The hunted thrills the beast who kills
a nomad's food fulfills.

If evil has a form her own
to stalk the prey she sees,
it was of him to God well known
a brute with pride's disease.
The first to Eve, his god-like form
perfection to the eyes,
though tall and straight, a thunderstorm
furious, a brother dies.
The joy of life that once he knew
when work with hands well done,
replaced by fear of death that grew
as time more sands would run.
The haunted thrill, a beast who kills
relentless time fulfills.

Where once each day with Father spoke,
he cannot hear a sound,
as if there were a fiendish joke
requiring sin astound
the Maker's watchful eye,
with him its featured knave,
whose choice, the vile embrace and die,
His love decried, deprave.
The bludgeoned fist, his wielded blows,
a battered lump of clay
five hundred years of bruises knows
that hell on earth one day,
enduring long the depths of pain,
despised the wife of Cain.

This is poem evokes so much pain it is sometimes difficult to bear reading. How you make the reader feel for Cain's wife. This poem is heart wrenching... completely the opposite of Eve, but just as wonderfully done.
