"Eve" is the first of a trilogy about the wives (of Adam, Cain and Seth,) who were the initial women refered to in the book of Genesis. Eve Morning and evening bordered that first day of awareness, the fact of being, what to think, the other peering too, as unsure of his way as I was, till the Voice from the dusk had us drink, eat the fruit of a tree, gave us speech and a mind remembering what was said. Even more, all I see stays with me to enjoy, as at first, what I find well-pleasing. He spoke of creation, we were free with two restrictions, and all the fruit ours to eat, Eden overflowing. A pair of special trees we were not to indulge, our knowlege incomplete, although seeming to be free to do as we please. It was He who taught us to touch and procreate, to enjoy waiting for discourses He'd relate. Some portals once opened will never close again, innocence a fragrance no one can rebottle. Frankincense uncontained like a cliched refrain, tomorrow, forgotten, though today, full-throttle. To the west lies Eden, wander east to find Cain, killer on his forehead, rejection in his heart, hunter clan, a self-willed mighty man born to pain. Obedience negates the need to see that part the future has in store before we make the step questioning minds insist naivete undertake. "Hindsight, a bitter pill's prescription had I kept one eye on, perfection's Eden we'd not forsake for knowing anything, beyond that loving hand extended to those first made for His promised land." --BGvH . . . . I was reading this poem when I started to wonder why there had to be so many mysteries in this world. If I could visit any time span I wished, I would always choose the years when paradise on earth existed. I can only dream of how beautiful Eden was, much less visualize. Now, what to do with all the mysteries in the world I ponder. Now there are still the dinosaurs, and the evolution theory. And Eve and Adam, who and what were they, what were they like, were they tall or short, were they burning with eternal energy. I did hear rumors that Adam had an ultimately high vocabulary.. he named all the animals! So many controversies it make me grind my teeth. Did you write this yourself? Opening my mouth in shocked amazement. |

This is a really beautiful poem that just flows from image to image. It's hard to find a new way to describe the story of Eve but there are lots of things here that are captivating... such as describing innocence as a fragrance. That is wonderful. |
