I would for that long ago, for the snow-burdened pine cracklings, for the crisp air-shatterings of lost laughs, for the surroundings of powder-blue comforters that used to snug little feet in their dream wanderings I would for that long ago, for a certain tree with its visible roots living in those old summers when people talked to one another, nightly lazy-rocked on porched davenports, while the bugs spoke bug-talk from outside the screen and everybody listened because the pauses satisfied as breaths of soft air soothed, ebbs of the wind would mark these gatherings of so many unremarkable moments and then everything would seem to stop... and all would silently sigh an inaudible amen... I would for that long ago quiet communion and for that Grand Creak-House with its wooden floors and breezy fans that could lull one to a standing sleep, be a cooling caress midst the heat of un-insulated Julys, when more people smiled than did not and there was more time for being-human, more savoring time for flavor-testings, more time to become one with the hum of the humdrum which was so much more important than ever I imagined, way back then, when it all was -so- and today was so far, far, away ------------------ |

Oh my, such imagery.....I could definately see, feel and hear this one. Nicely done!! ------------------ "In the depths of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer" ~Albert Camus |

This is beautiful Paul, I was completely transported to that long ago time and place of now forgotten comforts and freamed of delights. Such marvelous imagery...BravO! ------------------ "We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion.....the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?" --John Keating, Dead Poets Society |

Paul... arrgh u are making me suffer when I read this, since I obviously remember the attic fans at my grandma's house very well, and me and my cousins playing hide and seek outside and inside the house. Outisde there were masses of trees to hide behind, and the town was just so old. I like un-insulated Julys. I am a summer person myself, with June 26 being the high of all year, my birthday!! I think if I find that poem on my old house in Edmond, I might publish it. This poem by you has inspired me well. |
