Preface; I tire (as I'm sure you do) of my woeful world is ending/broken heart poetry. I mix it up a bit here. The italicized words are scientific names for salamanders and my intent is to play off them. Thank you in advance.

I wasn't the only one fashionably late to the Salamander Ball. Just in front of me went the empty headed Ambystoma Annulatum accompanied by the avowed bachelor Ambystoma Cingulatum. They weren't quite enough to block the view of our hostess Plethodon Chattahoochie who, now that she'd had a few, would talk my tail off. "Richard dahling, now the party can start". "I'm sure you know a great many of these lounge lizards". She took my arm and led me through the crowd. In fact I did know almost everyone in sight.
In one of the non-drinking circles I recognized the rock climber Desmognathus Monticola with his little sidekick Desmognathus Imitator. Joining them was the local head of Gamblers Anonymous Plethodon Yonahlossre and one of the party's designated drivers Plethodon Vehiculum.
Trying to cheer up the recently widowed Aneidas Lugubris was the town playboy Plethodon Elongatus who had his eye on coquettish Ambystoma Gracile. Also in that circle was Ambystoma Laterale who was only good for a couple drinks before falling victim to the circling Plethodon Fourchensis no doubt looking for his fifth wife or maybe Grobmani who didn't care where his crumbs fell from.
At the large center table was the holier than thou crowd anchored by the secretive clergyman Cryptobranchu Alleganiesis Bishopi munching on a celery stalk and alternately nodding approval to either know it all Plethodon Websteri or sycophant Plethodon Kisatchir as his baby faced bodyguard Batrachoseps Gabrieli silently looked on.
Blocking the buffet table were Plethodon Glutinosus and Typhlomolge Robusta, but I'd already eaten so I enjoyed watching that mooch Vagrans Annides trying to work his way around them to the freebies.
The outcasts hung near the piano, the "goths" Batrachoseps Campi and Eurycea Wilderae who must have been discussing her green hairdo, or maybe sisterhood, with the transsexual Plethodon Electromorphus while amorphous Stereochilus Marginatus sang with the piano player.
That old fartbag Eurycea Multiplicata Grisrogaster had the wimpish Ambystoma Tremblayi trapped in a conversation in a corner given wide berth.
Since Eurycea Waterlooensis kept running in and out of the bathroom Ambystoma Macrodactylum Columbianum and that no good Ambystoma Mavortum Diaboli had to keep running upstairs to snort their drugs.
Then I saw her. Facing me between the parted backs of the wretched gossip Ambystoma Nebulosum and the ever polite Batrachoseps Attenuatus was my old flame Siren Lacertina. It was time to go. She'd already tore my heart up once, but that's another story.

I dont "tire" of any of your expressions...they are always a lesson in poetic excellence...and even the "woe" must be written...often it tis our best poetry as the pain is a sincere and stirring muse.

As to this...once again your depth of knowledge impresses.
this ends like a begining...........

(smiling) clever word play indeed.... I enjoyed RS and especially liked the humor implied and obvious..
