All right, it's holiday season! So everyone, what is your favorite Christmas carol? And, why did you pick that one? I'll start: my favorite is "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" by Longfellow. The reason for this is because last year at Christmas the words applied to my own life. Some people have NO idea what the holiday season is about   This is what my poem Holiday Hope was written about, btw.

So, let's hear it guys!!!

Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

My favorite is also I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day. I always loved it. I had heard that the author wrote this shortly after the death of his son who was killed in a war, don't know which one or if this is even a true story. Regardless, it always brings a tear. It is one of those songs that is also beautiful poetry with a timeless message!

Merry Christmas!

Pepper: yes, it is truly a beautiful song.

Denise: wow! I don't know the definite truth behind the song, but I'm sure someone does! Cool that you and I have the same favorite.

Alwye: I also enjoy "O Holy Night".

Thanks to everyone who replied!

Hmmm.. I really like "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24" by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, I just like the strong sound change from quiet and poignant, and the mix of instruments.. And I also like Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer, and Jingle Bell Rock, just because they're fun

I'd have to say mine was always Hark of the Bells, if I named that right. It was quick and I loved it since I was small.  But my favorite funny one has to be Grandma got run over by a reindeer.  I love that one!

Mine is "Little Drummer Boy".
Something about the line "I have no gift to bring" - "Can I play for you on my drum".

That epitomizes the meaning of Christmas for me.  It's not about the offering of material posessions.  It's about offering your heart and your life for Him who gave all to us.

...Then of course there's.... What Child is This, Away in a Manger, The First Noel, Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem, Deck the Halls, Santa Claus is Coming to Town... I love 'em all... We've always had a family gathering on Xmas Eve... and I've always made my kids listen to carols enroute - rather than Metallica, ya know?

I love Christmas! I love ALL the carols, really! We wail away over here while my sister (and sometimes me) plays the piano.

Without a doubt, though, my very favorite carol is "Oh Holy Night". The lyrics tell the story of Christmas so well and the poetry just gets to my soul. Plus, the way it builds up to its ending.... beautiful! That's the one that does it for me!

Merry Christmas everybody! I hope you all enjoy your time with family and friends and that your are reminded of the true meaning of Christmas with *every* carol you hear this year. After all, the birth of Christ was only the second most important thing that ever happened. On Easter, we celebrate the first most important thing that ever happened, but without His birth, He couldn't have died for us.... so.... I guess His birth was THE greatest thing that ever happened, huh?

What Child is This is my all time favorite. I also like some funny ones. The one about the 12 days of Christmas where the guy is stringing lights and grandma getting mowed down by a reindeer are funny.

How can you save me?
When the dark comes right in and takes me,
from my front walk and into bed,
where it kisses my face and eats my head. Shivaree
