Beatitudes for the Millenium Blessed are the ignorant, for they shall not suffer stress. Blessed are the hopeless, for they shall not be disappointed. Blessed are the lazy, for they shall never have to live up to expectations. Blessed are the boorish, for they shall never tire of hearing themselves talk. Blessed are the proud, for their humility shall never get in the way. Blessed are the rude, for they shall never have to apologize for their behavior. Blessed are the morally corrupt, for they shall never have a guilty conscience. Blessed are the obstinate, for they shall never see their own errors. Blessed are the egotistical, for they shall always have their favorite person with them. |

Yes, I can just imagine Lucifer sitting atop the Millenium Dome (that gross temple to materialism in London) spouting the revised beatitudes. I look around me though and see that he hasn't won yet - no, not by a long chalk ... . |

Okay, I liked the last one but this just doesn't do much for me. It's just sort of there; it doesn't leap up and excite me (yeah, I know that's kind of tough to do that from a computer screen but work with me here). It seems a bit too one dimensional and self righteous as I read it now. You never know. I may change my mind. wishy washy Brad |

Poetree I live in England and I think you have the wrong idea about the dome (waste of money though it is). It is mainly a celebration of human endeavour over the last millenium and how hope/beleif is always tiumphant. The idea is quite inspirational, the reality is money that could have been used to save thousands of lives wasted on another monument to be demolished soon after its use |

Hi Lolita (Tara?) - I'm in England as well in case you didn't guess. You sorta make the point for me - a huge amount of money being spent on something which is essentially celebrating man's material achievements (as opposed to his spiritual ones... whatever they might be lol) and which could have been spent (in my opinion) on something more worthwhile. As someone not too far from here is so fond of saying ... "Just an opinion" |

i liked it. it's so true, it doesn't have to be much else. do you have any idea how many people you could offend with this ? well i think that it's a good thing. what you say here could be copied down as some old adage. i liked it. |

Seems as if some people have missed the irony in the work. Hope this totally tongue-in-cheek piece does not offend. It is a commentary on how far we have come from the spirit of the Biblical Beatitudes. |

I saw the irony Pat which is why you got the ironic response (although I forgot that you might not know about the dome over there !). I know waht Roxane means tho. there are some people out there who don't tolerate irony or satire in the area of religion - not in this broad minded and tolerant forum thank goodness |

Keenly observed and well presented. We all know who spoke the original beatitudes, but this new and expanded list must come from a totally different person's mind suggestive of the post- modern attitude of "bless them anyway, what's the difference, they're O.K." :-) Your irony is unmistakable, though.
