What Is Love? Love is Trust A requirement for true love Knowing we are safe to be ourselves Without disguise or pretense Love is Loyalty Faithfully respecting the partnership Believing and honoring each other Holding on when difficulties arise Love is Acceptance Open to all conditions Tolerant of each others opinions A right to remain individuals Love is Gratitude To hold and express appreciation Remembering sharing is a choice Attuned to each others uniqueness Love is Equality To regard ourselves and partner as equals Never submitting to power plays Both equally contributing to the relationship Love is Honesty Truthfulness between ourselves and our beloved Not divulging information carelessly Sharing an atmosphere of openness Love is Humility Realizing each others flaws and errors Without judging and shaming Recognizing we both have faults Love is Forgiveness Learning from mistakes Forgiving ourselves as well as our loved one Being open for this to occur Love is Sensitivity Harmonizing to our lover's nature Maintaining distance or stepping in when invited Allowing them time and space to grow on their own Love is Justice Playing fair without ultimatums Overcoming vanity and arrogance Holding onto our beliefs of what is right Love is Patience The glue that holds love together Understanding what is lacking and fixing it Outlasting all obstacles Janette (C) July 9, 2001 |

it read a bit dry to me, and i didn't quite connect to the spirit of the poem.....possibly could use a bit more involvement to the reader or to the "feeling of the emotion" if that makes any sense whatsoever....... Maybe possibly pick out a few things that are very personally connected to the bride and groom and add that to the poem Other than that - i think that's one of the best definitions of love i've read....... but i also think love does itself justice by not having one true definition ![]() |

FaeryKynn, Thank you for the critique. I guess I got so involved with wanting to write a great definition of love that I left out the passion....which is oh so important in love, too. I will think more on this one. Thanks! |
