What Is Love?

Love is Trust
A requirement for true love
Knowing we are safe to be ourselves
Without disguise or pretense

Love is Loyalty
Faithfully respecting the partnership
Believing and honoring each other
Holding on when difficulties arise

Love is Acceptance
Open to all conditions
Tolerant of each others opinions
A right to remain individuals

Love is Gratitude
To hold and express appreciation
Remembering sharing is a choice
Attuned to each others uniqueness

Love is Equality
To regard ourselves and partner as equals
Never submitting to power plays
Both equally contributing to the relationship

Love is Honesty
Truthfulness between ourselves and our beloved
Not divulging information carelessly
Sharing an atmosphere of openness

Love is Humility
Realizing each others flaws and errors
Without judging and shaming
Recognizing we both have faults

Love is Forgiveness
Learning from mistakes
Forgiving ourselves as well as our loved one
Being open for this to occur

Love is Sensitivity
Harmonizing to our lover's nature
Maintaining distance or stepping in when invited
Allowing them time and space to grow on their own

Love is Justice
Playing fair without ultimatums
Overcoming vanity and arrogance
Holding onto our beliefs of what is right

Love is Patience
The glue that holds love together
Understanding what is lacking and fixing it
Outlasting all obstacles

it read a bit dry to me, and i didn't quite connect to the spirit of the poem.....possibly could use a bit more involvement to the reader or to the "feeling of the emotion" if that makes any sense whatsoever.......   Maybe possibly pick out a few things that are very personally connected to the bride and groom and add that to the poem    Other than that - i think that's one of the best definitions of love i've read.......  but i also think love does itself justice by not having one true definition     thanx for the read

FaeryKynn,

Thank you for the critique.  I guess I got so involved with wanting to write a great definition of love that I left out the passion....which is oh so important in love, too.

I will think more on this one.

Thanks!
