life as a train
a bullet in a storm drain
trains the senses to see
where we are going, based
upon where we've been
packed sardinetight, backward faces
ass-over-heels aftertaste
of the same railing, places
we've seen before
what allegorical light is
the one at the other end
of the tunnel?
step out and see
the boneshattering impact crushing me
with the inertia of the past
as life speeds fast
over gilded tracks
built upon the backs
of our trampled hopes
silently glittering in a storm drain
i rail against this bullet train
fast backtracking
at last
