              RED-CARPET TREATMENT
14,000 Thousand Things to be Happy About (#35)

So he's finally decided to come back,
My handsome,long-gone husband,
A hero now, wealthy, famous, and
Ready to give home another shot.
Now he gets red-carpet treatment.

He's got to be tired after his long drive,
So not a word of reproach will I give him.
Just hugs and smiles and cheerful chatter,
And tonight he'll sleep long and deep.
He has certainly earned that.

I've put on the dog to welcome him,
Plenty of food and bubbly laid out,
Hot-tub ready to receive weary limbs,
And I've got ny very sexiest gown on,
And I've rolled out the red carpet.

He's not coming back alone tonight;
He's bringing his "secretary" to dine with us,
(That's what he calls her, his sexy sec'y.)
Some wives would be put out by this,
But I just unroll the red carpet.

Maybe that rug's not color coordinated,
But everything else is perfectly arranged,
So he'll get the warm welcome he deserves.
And the crimson carpet will soak up the blood.
Oh, he's here.  "Welcome home, Agammemnon!"

Ted:

I can only echo Jenni's remarks.  One thing, though ... this is something to be happy about?

Well, as I've already had to point out to the  Open Poetry 5 gang, the "Happy Thing" topic is my starting point, but I have no idea where I will end up . . . happy, grim, profound or silly.  That's part of the beauty of these challenges . . . each time I find out just a bit more about what's in my skull.  Besides fat.

Ted

A bit of light reading for a change .. very welcome .. very funny (unless you're the wife ..  ) .. quite brightened my morning it did..

Just one small question (for the sake of the dog) ... did you really mean:

"put ON the dog"

its sorta sounds like "put on the beef stew" !!!!!

a small typo maybe or shades of the rabbit in "Fatal Attraction"? (I think that's the right film anyway ...lol)?

Philip

PS Sorry Jim I meant MOVIE !!!!!  lol

Ted,
I can only echo previously stated comments.
Levity is good, and always needed. Nice job.

Poertree, your youth is showing, or my age.  When I was younger (way back in the last century) "put on the dog" had a definite slang meaning.  Ask some old geezer.

~smile~  No way is it youth Ted .. guess it must be the stretch of water we call "the pond" .. c'mon "fess up" (to use an expression I've recently learnt from a Californian friend of mine)...

Philip btw (I hate that pretentious name Poertree ..  )
