Kneeling in the driveway,
Of a station long ago-
Whiskey on my breath-
I gave the dice a roll…

I thereby set the pattern-
I would follow through the years-
A lot of fool decisions,
And a lot more bitter tears.

A lot of pain inflicted-
On the woman in my life-
It truly is amazing-
That she is still my wife.

If there is a moral-
It surely must be this-
Lay off drink and gambling-
If you want a life of bliss.

They say life is the gamble, John, though they don't teach many of us the rules in time.  Most of us don't learnt o weigh our choices till it's too late to do us any good.

John...Been through similar circumstances early on in my life. My wife of 52 years stood by me and without her I know that I wouldn't be here today, so give that wife of yours a big hug and do something very special for her...Paul
