The Struggle

The struggle never ends.
The river of life wends.
We fight to reach the shore,
To stake our claim to more.

The choices that we make—
Things we’ve reached by mistake,
We chalk them up to chance,
Then search out circumstance.

Our feet on solid ground,
We slowly turn around.
Watch friends carried away,
‘Wonder what we should say?

As current decimates.
Take time to blame the fates.
Another perfect fail
To ourselves we avail.

This dream: our everything.
Life, the awakening.
Though some are meant to fly.
Most never even try.

Instead, we turn and crawl
Till shadow blankets all.
No true chance ever taken,
By our own choice forsaken.

And if the mirror don’t reflect
The illusion you made
You could stop and take a breath
Feel the damages weight fade
In the silence”

thought provoking...a nice write, Michael..suggesting that some don't risk anything in life; even if you do, there is no guarantee of getting where you want to and we can only count on ourselves...

My mother’s favorite song was ‘No Man’s Land’ by Bob Seger and one part went like this:

“Sanctuary never comes
without some kind of bliss
illusions without freedom
never quite add up to this”

She especially loved those lyrics. Your words made think back to that. The thought that, nothing is guaranteed in this world but for one thing: the things you desperately want for your life or where you dream to be will never be yours unless you get up and go for it. Maybe the deck is stacked against you, maybe it isn’t, but at least you tried.

Anyway, I really liked this. Strong words well crafted.

Michael...Makes one think about life and choices we make. Some of them right some of them turn out wrong no matter how much we want them to be right. To be true to ourselves and know we tried, that is more than some do.

I really liked the following verse

Our feet on solid ground,
We slowly turn around.
Watch friends carried away,
Wonder what we should say?

Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed very much my friend...Paul
