In the stillness of the midnight-
I often sit and think…
The same way that I used to-
Back when I was prone to drink.

My thoughts are so much clearer now-
Than they ever used to be.
In fact, I hardly recognize-
The man I know as me.

I drag out my old memories-
An old photograph or two…
I sit here drinking coffee-
With thoughts for only you…

I guess a man is crazy-
If he’s  living in the past…
Since you won’t be in my future-
I’ll just make those memories last.

I think about the good times-
The laughter and the fun…
Before our fateful parting-
When I packed my bags and run.

I always thought that I’d return-
Girl, how was I to know…
I would get bogged down with living-
That was thirty years ago.

Something similar has happened to me. Time gets away from us while we follow paths we think we need to follow. Writing again is helping me sort out my wayward tendencies and many shortcomings. Thank you for making me reflect this morning. Enjoyed!

I fully understand that. I'm not sure what we are looking for, but I trust we will find it in writing.

Gunslinger, I been involved in playing the Blues for 58 years, this is great lyrical content.
You should bring it out with some major 7ths, minors-minor7ths- with some major foundations, it could flow smoothly.

Living has a way of stealing life from us, that is for sure.  The only way to face tomorrow is to turn your back on yesterday...I've been told.

John...This sounds like the beginning  of a sad country song. Enjoyed my friend.
Reminds me of an old Mack Davis song
"Looking at Texas thru my rearview mirror"
