Memories and melodies go walkin’ hand in hand. She used to be my woman, and I used to be her man. We thought we’d live forever, building castles in the sand; But that was long ago, so long ago. Sweet dreams, of things that used to be, still tangle up my mind- Although the people in those dreams are years and miles behind. A life like that, it seems to me, is awful hard to find, But that was long ago, so long ago. A bedroll and a guitar, the years stretched out ahead- Sleeping by the highway, hard ground my only bed. I remember every single “I love you”, she ever said… But that was long ago, so long ago. It seems the sun is setting, on a lifestyle wild and free. I find myself forgetting, all the things that made me, “Me”. I guess I’ll die a loner, and that’s how it ought to be, So much for long ago, so long ago. |
