Fair to middlin' of nowhere

To assess or connect.
Instinctual and reflexive.
Primordial need for survival.
Movement without thought
by fingertips on skin.
Fundamental social bonding.
An adhesive of love,
It speaks volumes
or keeps to itself in silence.
In the quiet grows the longing.
Longing begets the question why.
Why is the window to doubt
that questions priorities
and preoccupations
too distracting.
Or is it apathy?

in danger, i would follow instinct, in quiet i would follow apathy or reflexion, i like the subtle questionning here, the sensation of doubt, thanks Lori

How perfectly you put our state of mind in this new world...do we question or close our eyes to what is happening...this poem is profound and I found myself listening very carefully...thank you

Holy heck, this one started slow and slightly intoxicating...then just sucks you down the rabbit hole with no warning whatsoever!

The questioning aspect of this is spot on...it's the answers we give ourselves that may need to be examined though?  To many of us choose the convenient truth over the real truth these days.

Lori, I wonder if "so" wouldn't work better than "too" in the second to last line,  I know it can't be changed, even if you wanted to, but, hey, I'll be late for my . . .

Well, you know what I mean. Besides, flunked English all through High School, well, the two years that I attended, anyway

So much depth in this piece . . .

I love your reflection in this piece Lori, and I enjoyed the thoughts this placed into my own mind. Very nicely written.  There is so much to question in this world today, and yet so many times, the answers to the questions seem to circle back.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Apathy?

Maybe. . .maybe not.  Maybe I just need to look again.

Well done with this one.

Apathy or maybe pure terror.

I wondering where you've been. Enjoyed the way this made me think.

Thank you all for continuing to respond to this piece. I guess my lack of replies comes from writing it from a painful place I wasn't eager to revisit. My apologies. ~L
