Fair to middlin' of nowhere

·

My porch is always open
if you care to share the view.
There are more than enough
chairs for me and you.
Come early or late,
doesn’t matter,
I’ll wait.
Come early for coffee
and see the sunrise.
Come late and listen
to the animals chatter
and watch the moon rise.
Come at mid afternoon
and I can give you
a glass of something cold
and a place in the shade.
Pray for a breeze so that
we don’t melt into a pool.
An afternoon rain
can be really cool.
My porch isn’t fancy,
it has no screens.
It is open warfare on mosquitos,
we go to extremes.
We can sit quietly lost in our dreams.
We can talk about the weather and the like.
I’m always up for a debate
on politics, religion or the environment.
I’m not itching for an argument.
Once I’ve had my say,
I know you’ll see it my way.
And I’ll see your way too.
We can agree to disagree
like good people do.
I’ll be me
and you be you.
My porch is always open
if you care to share the view.

There aren't enough "good people" in the world, Lori.  Sad truth.

I wish there were...  the only way we can ever learn anything is listening to others, without being so entrenched in our own defense mechanisms that we discount anything someone else has to say before the words even leave their mouths.

Agreeing to disagree is the philosophy I live by.  ...a.k.a. "live and let live."  Just cause someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean you have to beat your way of thinking into them.

Wish I could sit on your porch with you, would love to share your insights with you.

Lori..Good to see you, & I'd love to take
you up on that invitation, I read somewhere
that life needs more front porches.

Enjoyed the view from your porch..

I zoomed in on my phone to see where you live. LOL!

I love your front porch sitting poetry, Lori! It's very calming, and I can always picture myself there.

Michael,
You tell a harsh reality about listening. It is like some people fill their heads with conspiracy theories then stick their fingers in their ears (to hold them in and keep logic out) all the time going la,la,la,la,la.

I have always had a thing about being understood. It is one thing to disagree with what I think and a whole other thing to disagree with what you think I think.

Would love to sit and talk with you. Am especially excited about your recent epiphany.
Can't thank you enough for your most thoughtful replies to my poems. ~L

Sky,
You are welcome anytime! However I would discourage all August afternoons. You will be sitting solo-I can't take the heat! But wouldn't it be lovely to meet you and sample some of that awesome creative mind in person.

Thank you for reading me and commenting. It is good for the ego when Poets I respect and admire, read and comment. ~L

Temptress,
Zoom in all you want! LOL! If it is in real time you might get a shot of the old man watering the flowers in his boxers. LOL!!

Seriously, if I could have a dream list of people on my porch to talk to, you know you'd be at the top.

I am one of those people who is painfully shy trying to meet new people, but once I get to know you, I can be blow your drink out your nose kinda funny.

Yann my friend,
I'd like to think in some ways "porches" are the same everywhere you go. A place for hearts and minds to gather. ~L
