I was raised out in the country, About seven miles from town. Me and my younger brother- No other kids around. We grew up in the pastures- With a dog and twenty-two- We were poor, but didn’t know it- Hard to believe, but true. Jobs were few, and far between- So, I began to roam… In search of greener pastures, I drifted far from home. I guess my journey took me- Down a long and winding track… If I learned a single lesson- It’s the fact, you can’t go back. Home had changed, or was it me? Or maybe we both did- Affections I had once displayed, I long ago had hid. Goodbyes were not so hard now- As my suitcase I did pack- I sighed, and sadly shook my head- I found you can’t go back. |

Not going back is one thing...it's when you can't go forward either that you really have to worry. Good to see you, John. Happy New Year. |

Yeah, it's a hard lesson to learn my friend - almost a slap in the face, a realization that "if only I hadn't left". Mine came when I was 17 and joined the Navy. Went off to boot camp, came home on two-week's leave . . . the slap I got was like I died: was resurrected and my past no longer existed. In only nine weeks I had ceased to exist. Yeah. You nailed it my friend. j. |
