Darling, if you love me let it show.
If there is no hope, just let me know.
Love is not a game that should be played-
Nor list of sad mistakes which we have made.

Life is far too short to fuss and fight-
If we should fall in love, let’s do it right.
I have to wonder what you saw in me-
If you no longer see it, set me free.

I guess I’ve been a dreamer all my life-
I visualized a princess, not a wife.
When one attempts to live a fairy tale-
There is no doubt that he is doomed to fail.

I think we should consider moving on-
That’s always best whenever love has flown…
Love is but a small four-letter word-
Oft misused, but sweetest that I’ve heard.

Another word, as heavy as a stone-
Makes appearance, after love is gone-
Call it irony, or call it fate…
The word of which I speak is known as “hate”.

It’s sad if two, in love, devolve to this-
What happened to those dreams of loving bliss?
A tragedy when true love has to die-
Far better if we simply say goodbye.

Agree with your concept.  Burning it to the ground serves no good purpose.  If you had something good, and the two of you, for whatever reasons, aren't sharing that anymore...recognizing this and moving on while you still have good memories you can look back on is one of the healthiest ways of letting go.  You can let go of something beautiful, and yet keep that beautiful something with you forever, without having to embrace bitterness.

A friend of mine put it this way..."Sometimes a bitter memory, can make a beautiful song."

Haha!  I love that.   Very very true, too.
