Forty Novembers~ A dirge preludes Thanksgiving, Rockwell's 'feast' chills her bones, poppies ruffle in the breeze, the sun glistens on granite and a bowed grey head, as memories softly shuffle down dead-end roads to rest upon a slightly tilted white cross. There are no tears in the crowsfeet of her eyes, the years have shed their due, she was twenty one when he left Galveston. © Augustsky *Last line slightly changed, from the song "Galveston" |

Felt a heavy ache in this, tears in the eyes or not. Still making the walk though, a very good and much needed thing from this vantage point. Was my father's birthday two days ago. Been away more years now than he was actually with us. The stillness in this, the longing for all that was never said, or that I at least wish would have been said, is piercing. |
