14 September 1986 http://soundcloud.com/diana-van-den-berg-2/night-sound Out there in the tranquility of my night forest there is a squeak of a small animal or bird or frog. I hear it above the intermittent swish of tyres on the distant highway and the gentle zing of crickets below my window and the deep contented breathing of the dogs at my feet. And I need to share the squeak of the small animal or bird or frog with you. |

A pause while I listen, and a thank you for sharing. Beautiful piece, though the thing I find most beautiful about it is your second line: "in the tranquility of my night forest" You claim the forest, whether intentional or not, and I love that. It IS yours, Diana. |

What a beautiful reaction to my night sound, Michael! I am glad that you took pleasure in listening too. I am glad you experienced the peace of my beautiful night forest in the line “in the tranquility of my night forest”. I absolutely love “you claim the forest, whether intentional or not, and I love that. It IS yours, Diana.” In actual fact, my garden really is an indigenous forest garden, initially the traditional garden was cleared and the planting started in 1985 and my children gave me indigenous trees for birthday and Christmas presents, but then it generated and re-generated of its own accord. Recently partly for security reasons, but mostly to clear it of only alien trees that have invaded it, it has been thinned out a little, but it is still my beloved, protective, indigenous forest garden haven. Whilst part of the reason for writing and posting Night Sound originally and again now, was as a love poem, it has expanded into sharing it happily with all friends who accept the invitation. I don’t normally push other poems of mine in my replies, but you may find additional peace in my poem whose full title is: My Indigenous Forest Garden OR She Talks to the Trees – When Will They Put Her Away? OR Exercise-in-Squashing-As-Many-Adjectives-As-Possible-Into-One-Poor-Unsuspecting-Little¬-Poem Even the replies of the readers bring me peace. The poem is about my early morning forest, my daytime forest and my night forest, all of which I love, but . . . . you’ll see if you read it. I have posted it twice, probably by mistake. Both copies are exactly the same, except that I left the full title out of one and didn’t put quite the full title in the other – and then of course, the replies are not duplicated. /pip/Forum111/HTML/000391.html /pip/Forum93/HTML/003402.html |
