The Slip

A slip in time, a heedless rhyme,
Guess I’ve went and done it again.
A storied past, not meant to last,
Glory fades to “remember when…”
A structured art, a poisoned dart,
I take my stand on solitude.
Will bleed in song, forever long,
Echoes eternally subdued.

It’s not something that you can touch,
This certain sadness in the air.
More alienation as such,
Drawn on through clutches of despair.
A void of emotions once held,
You can’t remember how they felt.
A lingering unparalleled
Hollow by which you watch hope melt.

Bony fingers, the ace of spades
Stands undelivered in the dark,
Where Death is just a promise made
To flesh while mind’s left bare and stark.
Words etched to soul, they’ll land you blind,
Your fingers cannot trace their face.
A subtle thought turned whisper sought,
How’d you get here in the first place?

The song soon fades, the echoes die,
All that creeps on is certainty…
…Of all you now see as a lie—
All you were never meant to be.
Futility dimming the eyes
Until emptiness overwhelms.
Till Darkness swallows up the skies—
Gifts you her melancholy realms.

Michael...You sure you aren't a reincarnation of Dylan Thomas or some other great poet? I only wish I could tap into the same muse as you, man what a poem to ponder. You woke up many thoughts in my mind with this. Great poem my friend. A little dark but you know I like dark...Paul

Paul, that is a very interesting question.  I had a dream once along the lines of reincarnation...wrote something about it.  Will send it to you.  I kinda like the dark too I think.

Paul & Sky~

Please forgive my falling off the face of the earth...my weekly work schedule is horrid.  They can only have me 70 hours a week though.     My weekends are still mine.

I will post your poem, Sky` on Saturday as well as email you the poem I was referring to Paul.
