To write might be a calling,
Or maybe it’s a choice.
Or even a compulsion-
To give subconscious voice.

However you define it-
It is very plain to see:
Whether curse or blessing,
The thing applies to me.

I put aside my writing,
For more than seven years.
That I have lost my gift with words,
Is one of my worst fears.

But still I write of things I saw,
And things I’ve never seen.
I write of barren deserts-
And meadows lush and green.

Of women I have chanced to meet-
Some good and others bad;
Of men I’ve fought, and worked beside,
And friends I never had.

So I will keep on writing-
As long as I have breath,
My pen will cease to scribble,
When my eyes have closed in death.

Amen.

I think our writing is the voice of our soul...something that may not be visible in everyday life for some of us.  I've made conscious choice to lay down the pen a few times...have almost always regretted it.  keep writing my friend.

I feel your words, John. I stopped writing about six years ago. I dream in words - beautiful words. One day, I might try to put them in a poem.
