The Silence

The silence looming all about,
Haven’t come to terms with it yet.
With Time dragging the moment out
When what you wish for you don’t get.

It lingers here, the echo of
A love filled place, a grander time
That couldn’t seem to rise above,
So now moves on in pantomime.

Afraid to move, I sit stock-still,
Feeling the eyes of those like me.
Who set the charge, for good or ill,
Now, hand o’er heart, must let it be.

As emptiness slithers on in,
And gratitude starts to decay.
We walked the walk and talked the talk.
But now, we simply fade away.

Michael, you have been such a constant force on these blue pages, after all these years your poem seems so fitting and so telling of the poetry that lived and breathed for so long.  It has been a gift to me on many levels to say I was a part of it all in a small way.  Your poem is very meaningful, like a last hurrah, brought tears to my eyes.

Namaste good poet....

Your poems never come lightly to these pages.
You possess a powerful style. You could move a stone to tears. ~L

I find both my personal and poetic life reflected in your words and am left with both a sadness for what had to be and hope that better is still possible. Perhaps none of that touches upon your intention... but this poem touches me.

Hope all is well with you and that you and yours haven't suffered ill effects from the quakes. HUGS!

Bluesy, you certainly read me well.  These pages are exactly what this poem was about.  We truly were blessed to be a part of it.  But no last hurrahs just yet if I can help it.

Lori, speaking for stones everywhere, as sometimes I think I am one, I can attest to the fact that sometimes we need to be moved in such a manner.

Ida, thank you

Sky, a profound truth.  I think it was Manfred Mann who had an album called “the Roaring Silence”.  Loved that concept.

Ruth, all is well here.  We did feel the shakes but they were centered about 100 miles from us, in a pretty remote locale thankfully.  This poem was meant to reach us all on a poetic level…that it reaches you on a shared personal level though puts an ache in my heart.  I find it interesting you use the term “had to be.”  Some things are fated it surely seems.  I do believe we are already “better” just for the experience though, and am content to stand pat with the hands been played.

Thank you all,

Michael
