In the distance you can hear it booming like a drunken band of kettle drums headed this way. Lightning shows how far away it’s raining majorettes. Soon the parade of precipitation arrives in full regalia. And my lap is commandeered by a quivering mass of Schnauzer panting as if he were in a hot car. There are no words or stroking hands that can sooth him. He is inconsolable as long as the thunder plays its stormy serenade. My chair vibrates with his distress as we wait together for the drums to slowly march out of ear shot. At long last the drums are just a murmur and his panting slows. The quivering comes and goes. The cat is banging on the door wanting to come inside. I get up to let her in and he gets down reluctantly. Returning to my chair he comes and looks at me, deciding what to do. With one last quiver and a yawn He turns around and heads back to bed, Meanwhile the cat waits patiently for me to put the computer down so she can take her turn in my lap. |

I don't have a cat but I do have two Rottweilers who sound like your "drunken band of kettle drums". Whenever they get excited, they drown out the most severe thunderstorm! I'm afraid a cat would just be a 'light snack' for these two percussionists! Enjoyed reading this Lori Rhoden. Great poetic interpretation of natural (or unnatural) occurrences. Pass the Glade if you're going to do that here... |

I see that you are still puttin' the words out there in your own cool style. You give us a majestic feel with each and every poem you post, even though your poem doesn't have to be about majestic subjects, your words has that temperament. Heh.Heh Yeah, I'm sucking up. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ [This message has been edited by JerryPat2 (04-01-2017 08:26 PM).] |

PU, Thanks for the read about my dog and thunder. I do get inspiration from both my pets and the weather. (in Kansas all we have is wheat and weather) Rain has been a frequent topic for me as I used to be very afraid of storms but have out grown it over the years. ~L |

The ole suck up, eh Jerry? Well whatever, I'll take it. I've always been a sucker for flattery. ~L |
