the darkness is pitch black dark
total, complete nighttime
of the midnight hour
take another swig from the old
Jim Beam bottle
light up a cancer stick
drunken fools
the moon is so dark
almost can’t see it against
the black night
sitting on my porch
grinning at the midnight hour fools
up to no damn good
slowly cruising by
in black cars
yep, you’re right
to blend in with the night
music playing much too loud
for the time of hour it is
tune is familiar
but I cannot place it
a soft gentle wind
tickling my hair
ahhh . . .
the air is big time humid
I light another cancer stick
take another swallow of sour mash
ah, midnight
the artificial status of the
moment in time
connecting real with fantasizing
the moment
the fundamental moment
this is the hour
shout at the stars
blow a kiss to the darkened moon
no need for clocks
you’ll know it is time
when the bottle is empty

Now, that's laid back! Quite a graduation from California Burgundy, Jerry.

Some keen observations from that porch of yours, too.

Many thanks, Blusey for your very nice comments. Ah, yes I guess I drank many an old Jim Beam bottle dry in my time. It just hit the spot within the poem. Thanks again.

Jerry, I'm sure glad your porch is waaay different than mine. Midnight around here all the wild noise is coming from the nocturnal wildlife. You'd be lucky to catch a pickup out that late. And we wouldn't be drinking anything harder than soda pop.
But we'd be having a smoke and looking at the same moon as you.
Good poem. ~L

Heh.Heh Never mind the difference in our porches and/ourselves, Lori. We both love sitting out there and sipping on whatever we like. Thanks for your gracious comments.
