Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2018-04-23 05:49 AM

Shame on me
for a lack of ambition
to reach the bar
to be the best.

Shame on me
for a lack of inhibition
unable to wait
to be loved.

Shame on me
for a lack of determination
to put my foot down,
say no, or go.

Shame on me
for a lack of constitution
to be the woman
I wanted to be.

Shame on me
for my lack of resolution
that keeps the past
altering me.

Shame on me
for no lack of deception
keeping even myself
in the dark.

Shame on me
for a lack of discretion
doing my laundry
this way.

Oh Lori, you have put yourself down when you should be uplifting yourself. Just reading your poetry over the years is enough for me to realize that you have everything you need to be the woman you want to be.  Its okay to get down on yourself from time to time, it helps balance things out, but to wallow in self pity can be absolutely not good for you.

Well Jerry I didn't think of it so much as a wallow in self pity as labeling my shame issues. They didn't seem as shameful on paper as they did in my head. ~L

Well shame on me then because that's what I've been carrying around. But like I told Jerry, they don't feel as bad on paper as they do in my head. Can't deal with that stuff if it is just banging around in the old belfry. I'm tired of being a prisoner of my own self inflicted weaknesses. Wish I was working this out in my twenties. ~L
