A cold, damp, darkness laced with fog surrounds the pier
The waning moon twists the fog into ghostly tendrils,
soggy and wintry, enveloping a solitary form

Loneliness, an old companion, will visit the old man again
Slowly rowing upon forgotten waters, making his way toward the pier
Frigid and dank, the slow tide evokes no contentment, only a forlorn resentment

The pier will be no place of refuge this evening
The distant shores of fulfillment are again beyond reach
Sighing, he makes room upon his bench for a familiar apparition

I was touched by this, Bluesy, probably because I felt very familiar with the words, thinking it was written for someone like me. Nice work.

Thanks, Miss Lori. I think Jerry would be complemented by your comment. I know I am.
It's based in part, on a dream I had. I keep a pen & pad near me at all times.

Linny will just have to make room for it!

Just so long as she doesn't mistake your pen for a good time, you'll be alright. ~L
