Once upon a time upon the North Shore
there walked a maiden fair
into the unexpected
and completely unparalleled
that sapped her sanity
then left her like a feather
suspended in mid-air.

No wind or force of storms
can make her disappear
and no lightning bolts
can reignite the times
that live silently
in the depths of mind.

There is no substance
and no weight of meaning
to her existence
but she breathes and breaths again
while looking up and looking down
in utter bewilderment.

A feather in the air?
That surely isn’t fair!

Oh, Helen, I fear this isn't just a tale you've told, but much closer to the truth. I loved what you did with the poem, the concise manner you told the story, not an unwelcome pause in the lines. And no, my dear . . .
