Where Canoes Sleep~

Where canoes sleep,
Late Summer kisses
Curl within a shimmer
of sunburst leaves,
Cradled for a time
In henna embrace,
Slow release
To the inevitable ache,
The fall to a cool earth
Of bittersweet rest.

Oh breezes..take me home,
Let me leave my footprints there,
Tell of the trees scarlet secrets
In calico language,
Lead me to the hazy
wistful heart of Autumn,
Through mystic passage,
The fog..my ferryman,
Let me visit that place
Where canoes sleep.

Jan~

I love the voice in your poetry Jan. Because of that, I could have quoted your entire poem, however these lines that I did quote are my most favored. I also love the title and the soft, serene close.

Loving Linny Jean is poetry.

Heh! Henna. I remember when I was growing up the women all used what they called a henna rinse for their hair. Smelled awful.

Okay! Got that thought out of my mind. This was a stylish poem with wishful thoughts to return to that place "where canoes sleep." I love that phrase and everything it conjures up. Nice work, Jan.

Really pretty, love the visual in my minds eye where a couple of canoes are tucked away in the Marsh rocking on the ripples of an autumn breeze.

Wonderful poem, kudos good poetess.

The autumn colors are most appreciated while the leaves are still hanging in there before the pumpkins meet the first frost.
Raking leaves prepares the back for a long season of snow removal
