Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Misfortune
If you haven't already met
may it not step up and greet you
What a tragedy it would be
to find yourself needy
So those who live where its greener
not have hard times bite them in the grass
Oh, to fall from such high attitude
to such a low demeanor
that one could become so common
as to see the other side
of the hostage coin
And claim a new perspective
then pledge allegiance to a flag
and the representative form of government
for which it stands
with justice and liberty for all
To rise above the lobby
and the leverage
the demagogues, “birthers”  and haters
To become uniters, helpers and healers
no more wheeler dealers
All of us
in this together
holstering our fingers of blame

Loved the way you used the word grass . . .

Ah yes, to see the "other side of the coin," would be a big time come down . . . Now, doing this in the other extreme, I believe I could accept the other side in my case. Wealth! 'Nuff said, with wealth everything else would fall into place.

Eh, still I would hope that I retained enough of my former self to recognize what I hated about the people I have become and start trying to change things. With wealth I could make some good changes.

More than just wealth, we are hard put to find those that would empower because they can empathize. Too many indifferent to the price others pay for the money they make. It is hard to walk in the shoes of people of color and policemen today...We need to calm the rage and end the hate.

This is so good. Which piper calls the tune that brings passion to he heart, or death in metal fragments or righteousness? Their's or mine, or yours? There is only laments, and dirges. Only laments and dirges.

Lori,
Nice perspective.  Wouldn't it be nice to be so cut and dry in every day of all our lives.
But...  here comes the BUT...
I love the diversity of thought, no matter how, or who.  We all have the right to be: silly, goofy, angry, or to be from the planet stupid.

"What a tragedy it would be
to find yourself needy
So those who live where its greener
not have hard times bite them in the grass"

Although, maybe a bite in the grass would be a good thing, to some.

I'm glad I'm just passing through and not a permanent fixture here.
Enjoyed the write.

JL

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.
Maranatha!

JL you are absolutely correct. I did not mean to imply otherwise. ~L
