My purpose is not to be a poet, disgusting idea, If taken away of the life and the loves in any kinds, My purpose is not to have a name which enchants, But rather to like the sea of stars and love. My purpose is not to read everything as a child But to drill the big weakness of my spirit Which makes shade me in what I see and in what I hears, Tear my heart more often than you my friends My purpose is not to be a poet, which bad reprieve, But to rest me when the world seems to me crazy, Certainly I like the poetry and the poets and their envies, But purpose is to write poems which are sweet left. |

My purpose is being a poet, whether you think of me as one that okay. Funny that you would write a poem about not wanting to be a poet. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

One can certainly express ideas, passions, loves, discontent...etcetera, etcetera, without thinking of oneself as a poet. The assumption (don't bug me with a stupid cliche') is that when you write it instead of speaking it, the structure is construed as 'poetry', especially if one posts their thoughts on a 'poetry site'. (Disregard this if it doesn't work for you. It may easily be 'misconstrued' as a reply to a 'poem'.) While I don't often 'smile' in my responses yann, believe me when I tell you I am. No malice intended. More feelings and fewer words please |

It depends on the content of the poem. We can argue if a display of personal over emotion is a form of poetry or self therapy. Personally I prefer in the main to keep emotion more as an undercurrent i.e. it’s not my emotion I necessarily want to convey to the reader but to strike a cord with their emotions to enable them to share in the poem Cari. |

thanks ari, this is clever as you make me consider that writing poetry makes you a poet, specilllay on a poetry site when you write it, but as you let me the liberty , it doesn'y work for me.... I can explain that because i have no goal to be a poet (this is a world that doesn't works for me), but i have the goal to write poems, like someone who doesn'y want to be a garagist, but has to repair cars (for difficults reasons, hard to explain), I know saying that can be not clear, I apologize but anf thanks you for the clarity of your answer yann |

totally agree cari, let's put emotion first before pretending to be a poet, writing poetry without pretending to be a poet, letting the others deciding of what you are, i think your answer makes me ponder better the poem i wrote (which can miss emotion in fact) thanks yann |

I think being a poet is a wonderful thing yann, right behind a farmer of a healer. Ida |

There's the act of writing and then there's the label. Thought provoking read. Thanks. Pete |
