Barnhill Bay |

Barnhill Bay. The day dips down, a dwindling bowl of rose-mauve sky below a headland ebbing in a mirror sea. Each ripple rushes to an echo in the bay, gulls face westward and a solitary robin draws the shadow of my pen. Two-toed tracks of a doe and her fawn trace eastward over tide-fresh sand, past the shallow dock, long disused, its vanished boat, the wake of whispered prayers offered every evening by the abbey’s gable end. Overhead translucent yellow fingered leaves linger luminous in dying light, beyond their fraying hands the gathered cloud, an imminence of rain, slim hope for open skies and stars. March 2016 |

This is such a beautiful poetic painting. There is a quiet peace and serenity that transcends through these blue pages. Very well done, Pete... |

If you’re looking for escape from the rat race and far away from the Madding Crowd then you could do worse then to settle for Barnhill Bay. Not sure if the house where Orwell wrote ‘84’ is still available there but that would add interest. We had a holiday with the kids on the edge of Loch Shiel though that’s in the Western Isles. A very good poem on the beauty of seclusion, the sea and open landscapes. Cari. |

Thanks for the kind comments. Barnhill Bay is quite close to Aberdour, opposite the Isle of Inchcolm, where the ruined abbey is, and beyond that over the Forth are the lights of Edinburgh. Pete |

I'm so into agreement on the visuals in your poem Pete, and the delicate manner in which you write them. This line in particular struck a chord for me: quote: You're a talented poet Pete. More feelings and fewer words please |

I so enjoyed the serenity of the lapping waves, the settling of dusk, and the slight breeze to catch the wing of the company you keep. |
