Companion The old man sat reflecting times from equinoxes past As the sun unfurled its warmth on meadows sweet Robin red bobbing a song to warn a song to court Now night as long as day, but still a cold wind to chill Warm within his coat the spring sun highlighting life’s wrinkles The dog nuzzled his snout now grey, warm eyes that knew A shift from paw to paw but patient all the time As thoughts tumbled through his mind, warm soft fur to touch Soon orchard blossoms would bloom, forbears of the fruit to come He stood the dog’s tail wagging in anticipation The sun on his back distinct shadows leading the way home Morning mist now lifting the promise of a better day And then he turned and thought, a tear to brush away The dog sighed, a tighter lead, then homeward bound they walked |

Ahhh . . . Poem caused me to relate and think about then I take my little mutt for a walk. Or let her out back for some sniffin' and peeing. Enjoyed this. |

There’s something about dogs that inspire poetry, like me for example. Nice piece, Well done. Cari. |

So very, very, very beautiful, Michael, and so very, very, very real that it has the tears running down my face. I saw and felt every bit of it. I especially adore the doggy bits. You know dogs, that is obvious. |

Yeah, I was there, my friend --- uh, no, I wasn't the dog! --- and it touched the parts of me it was supposed to. Much enjoyed, j. |
