French Resistance

I always wanted
to have
breakfast at Tanya's
because she had
the coolest composure
and the nicest legs
this side of the French Riviera
and I wanted to know
if she knew how to
cook an egg
the way I liked it,
this along with a short stack of pancakes
with melted butter and real fruit jam
would loosen my resistance
and satisfy my hunger
and fulfill my desires
for anything this
lovely and French,
back when I was
young and dumb
and a finely prepared egg
could fill my stomach
and fuel a thousand dreams.
