Coltsfoot-Tussilago farfara Observations in March * On the south side of a gravel track, Still, to my eye, yet there is motion. Root-legs ply, down through frost, But freezing collects no toll From the emerging Coltsfoot; Until their golden drys to fluff, When other blossoms brighten April. A redbreast cocks its head- inquisitive As it skates on late-snow stains; Its vigilant eye, seeks things that slither -that hide beneath the frosted mantle, In the circumstance, of a dieing winter February snow, rots in windrows, Raked, roadside (a snow-plows tedder) Once, pure and white, now gray, Parfaited with layers of road scum, With sprinkles of errant gravel. Trash-can for fast-food cups-wrappers Cigarette butts, and beer-can ornaments, Decorate geologic layers-exposed By the sun that shows the site, Of a bout, between fender and bone. And whats left of who-lost the battle-- A deer leg, emerging--stiff with rigor mortis, Stands attentive, listless-protruding, Vertically stuck in the fast rotting drift; Its hoof... Waving goodbye to winter. |

Your poem gave meaning to the beauty of an in-coming spring . . . But oh! What an apropos fitting was the last dynamic closing lines. They gave a harsh-felt feeling as they said goodbye to old man winter. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Sorry friend, your poem coincided with my poem on spring, if I had read your poem before, I wouldn’t have posted on the same topic. Though your piece deals with the contrast between the scum of modern day society and the ageless return of annual beauty. Well constructed and thoroughly enjoyed. Cracking poem. Cari |

Wonderful display of word pictures. Captures all the scenes very well. Unfortunately, in this environment we live in, some of it gets dirty. All pictured very well with solid writing. Eric true love never looks after it's own interests |
