Just another piece of me. |

Meandering through yesterday, I met myself again Just sitting by the seashore writing poetry in the rain, I was writing of tomorrow, of the people I might meet On the quayside, in the market, or just passing on the street, Then I spoke to my reflection, and I asked about his verse And his lonely look reminded me about the poet's curse, Though he scribbled lines down ceaselessly, his parchment still was blind For a poet's words mean nothing unless they are underlined. As I looked into my eyes I saw what I was meant to see For all the poems I ever penned were calling back to me, Just like whispers in a mirror, they were drifting on and on Like clouds around a hillside that were there but now are gone, With no thought of inspiration other than life's many days I shook hands with my shadow and we went our separate ways, We watched each other quietly as we grew far apart Just two poets in a sunset with no ending and no start. Then I wandered through the twilight with a smile upon my face And I thought about tomorrow's golden summer silk embrace, As I wondered if I'd meet myself returning from my walk And on the bench below the Abbey we could sit and softly talk, Of our many happy memories and our many bites of pain And of mirror masked reflections that had let us meet again, Then I'd stand up and I'd watch him drift upon his silver sea Just another shredded shadow, just another piece of me… |

I like this poem. Easy, and fun to read, with a classic tone. The storyline keeps the reader involved, especially if they write poetry. Thank you, whitbypoet "Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance." |

Very, very well done, poet. ~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~ |

Very whimsical, the images and the rhymes draw me and I can just picture myself soliloquizing with me. |
