Cat Look into that cold dismissive stare Ribbons of past lives are lying there Jade green eyes of mirrored mystery Roll back the tumbling years of history This perfumed fur you understand Once lay beneath Cleopatra’s hand Emeralds about my neck were hung In happy days when I was young A ships cat where I earned my bread Stalking the vermin as they fled Just to catch and not to eat I laid them at my captain’s feet The cottage where my mistress dwells Dispelling curses, cackling spells Across the starry heavens wide We take a besom broomstick ride You cared for me through my kitten days And you worry so when I go astray But when the full moon’s shining bright I'm but a creature of the night |

Being a cat lover, I find this really very captivating, Cari. They are mysterious, they hold secrets beyond our imagination. I KNOW! Going to read and enjoy once more your poem. Margherita |

Thank you folks. I’ve been asked quite a few times ‘Why do you waste your time writing feel good poetry when you can write better stuff? Because the written word has only one function and that is to communicate and that’s why I write, to communicate. The quote ‘Poetry doesn’t require to be understood’ is ridiculous. No one is going to take a Uni degree on how to understand poetry. Poetry should never be confined to fit in a small box made by academics, it should be written for all tastes and all degrees of understanding. Sorry for the rant but I’ve been longing to say that for some time. Thank you for reading. Cari. |

That totally sounds like a tomcat I know of! What a cool story in your poem. It was just a thought which made them run. It was just an act that killed them. |

You have enough confidence, and skill enough to write feel good, or feel bad poetry. That is plain to see. Neither is a waste of time. I said it before....I think Ezra Pound hijacked poetry, and insisted, by his teaching, that poets write for other poets. It seems he thought that only academics should write, and be able to read it. No "feel good stuff" Thats my take on it. |

Love this poem and your attitude on Poetry being for more than just Academics. That is just plain snobbery to obscure the meaning so "regular people" won't get it. You are not writing down to, you are writing open to. ~L |
