Questions

Why did I sell my youth to charlatans
Pursue the quest for a perfect body
Drawn with slide rule accuracy
By the doll makers?
~
Why did I reject the bloom
that nature had lent me
Believing beauty lies in a jar
At forty dollars a throw?
~
Why did I pin ball bearings
To un-kissed lips
Seeking to improve on perfection
Because it seemed the thing to do?
~
Why did I think that all music
Lay in four chords
Played by infantile jesters
On phallic guitars?
~
Why did I think that salvation
Was to be found in the coca leaf
Or lay in the juice of poppy milk?
Tell me old man

My child, why ask one
Who believed that free love
Would change the world
And James T Kirk was the Messiah.

I don't know the answers. I don't do testings very well. Kids at school used to joke me about that all the time but I graduated anyway and emails and posts correct my spelling so I look smarter than I am.Since you wrote the questions maybe you know the answers already. I usually know my own answers if I don't cheat and be honest to myself.

It was just a thought which made them run. It was just an act that killed them.

Hah! James T Kirk indeed, Cari. Free love? Naw, don't believe it had much impact, except maybe in its early stages of the game.

A contest of generations to see what the the world had offered s pop culture, and the shallowness of those offerings...

I am an old man, hung out with hippies, but never believed in Captain Kirk...free love? Well it wasn't given chance enough, and was looked down upon by the older generation, made them mad, and so was a good tactic..

enjoyed the poem

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance."
Carl Sandburg

We make choices which are rejected by the next generation who then go on to make their choices which are rejected by the next and so on. I wonder how many tattoo covered 60 year old's will be willing to strip off and jump in the pool in the future?

Not to be taken too seriously, we English love satire. Thanks for reading.

Cari.
