       New Love

When above this
ever-suffering world
there is only fading
starlight and a few
motionless clouds
tipped in vanishing
  moonlight,
the mind fills with
dark and random
  thoughts
of all things passing
and the heart becomes
  an empty vessel;
yet in these moments
of perfect silence,
just before the gentle
  dawn,
hopes and dreams
    of new love
become the morning
   star.
