     Love Shall Stand

A bitter northeast wind
fills this night with snow,
diffuse sorrows, and dark-
   forlorn imaginings
of a thousand infinitely
small and suffering things
that Winter has forsaken;
and so it has been for some
five hundred millions years,
yet life has always found a way
to reawaken with the Spring.
Why then, cannot Love thus
stand … to talk against time!

That is the sixty-four dollar question, Bruce. Sometimes we get a second chance, but by that time we have become more cynical. Still, it does happen to those fortunate ones.
