Eclipsed

...And yet again I lift my pen
To pass along the scourge of men—
To write of wounds no touch could heal—
To dream of what cannot be real.

All in my head, these needful things
Sing to me of what no love brings—
Lay the foundations, far and wide,
Of Agony, of hopes denied...

...Of Misery, her despaired twin,
Who's called on me time and again.
I've held them both, this grievous twain:
Bitter, jealous sisters of pain.

But oh, the woe they hold for me
Will echo through eternity.
A shot to ring ears of the dead—
To purge the demons from each head.

The pain of all pains, raving mad,
Witnessing what you've never had—
Never could know, by some cruel joke
Higher powers chose to invoke!

The smiles, the laughs, the ease of speech
Without effort I see in each...
As all around me, day and night;
They convince me I am the blight.

And so I search darkness to find
Bas-relief for this weathered mind.
My one communication verse,
To share with you this devil's curse.

As all I touch, as I live on,
Withers and wilts upon the dawn;
To reveal, in all travesty,
This shadow that eclipses me.

Well, especially since I enjoyed reading this (as I normally do pieces you weave) I just can't leave this with no comments at all - - -
so, up to the top you go, my friend, for all to see.

Thank you, James.  I know it's not always easy for people to respond to my dark overtures.  Thanks for the bump though.

Michael, as always, your understanding of pain and darkness are so eloquently expressed. Beautifully written and a lovely flow throughout.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Excellent, Michael!  I'm sure many can relate to your words but it usually turns out to be not a forever state.  Humans are most adept at bouncing back - and also perhaps at bouncing back and forth.

Michael - Often when we feel eclipsed, it's easy to forget there's a light somewhere casting the shadow and maybe as often happens, it's only just us standing in the way of ourselves. Love your writing style and what was poetically crafted with it. Very nice work poet Michael. Namyh
