Hand carved, hand painted bold, bright and primitive A sun on the side catching my eye calling my name urging me to inquire the price of this souvenir for sale The lady of the house with the well to do garage full of fancy unmarked bargains offered it for a nickle as if even that were too much to pay for this folk art fish Astonished at my good fortune I happily paid the pittance of which I could afford for this memento purchased from an upscale boutique I'd never go in from a vacation place I'd never see My Nicklefish came to represent more than just bargain art to me It became a symbol of success my dreams may only see It became a name of something yet to be For twenty-five years or longer it has inconspicuously occupied places that graces the corners of my eyes Summertime porches curio cabinets whatnot shelves Wherever here or there it encourages me LGR(C)10/19/13 |

Lori, I absolutely LOVE this - for more reasons than I can contain in my head all at the same time. Owl |

thank you Owl! This piece was harder than I expected it would be because of all the meaning that painted piece of wood holds for me. Good to see you! Lori |

I can understand why your nicklefish has survived all these years. It is just something that is there whenever you need a jolt of reasoning, or as you put it, encouragement. ~*~ Your past is just a story. Once you realize this, it has no power over you. ~*~ |

I love the folksy theme on the poem, the art and the higher aspirations that your wonderful 'find' has come to inspire |

enjoyed your poem... I am one who doesn't go to garage sales but is beginning to have them lately since I use to do folk art craft shows for over 20 years. I enjoy when someone comes by and "eyes" something that I either made or collected myself from other artists and are not priced. I let them either have it for free or for a very small cost just to know they are going to enjoy it. M |

Pieces of the soul show up in places/things we'd never believe, my friend...and sometimes those that are tangible have greater meaning than we'd believe. good piece...much enjoyed. j. |

Understood. I once found a small carved Laughing Buddha at such a place for a small price. I still smile when I see it. Thanks for the feeling. |

Thank you all for you comments. Forgive my lateness in letting you know, it really meant something special. Lori |
