Childhood Suite II (West 34th Avenue & Wolff Street)

I dreamed tonight
I was a child again, learning to fly
gathering smiles in the summer light
holding sparklers against the sky
oh simplicity
that was life way back then
that was the door I left half open
so the fresh, young air would flow back into me
I dreamed tonight I'm back to being me

I found the light
it's almost burned itself away
I remember cradling it every night
mumbling promises into the day
oh serendipity
that was life at the time
that was a shudder through my mind
so the pure, sweet scent of green lawns enfold
against a bright sun of hard beaten gold

Childhood, the streets I walk down
become the streets I ran down full speed
carrying on the need
to fill those short days with all the fun that could be found
before the night comes down

I dream of light
suspended in the air like fireflies
the moon is a real world set alight
when seen through a telescope sight
oh eternity
that was never on the table
or in fine print on the warning label
the ingredients of a fuller life I forgot to transcribe
and I dreamed myself tonight a place to hide

Childhood, the shore I wander along
became the shore beaten by tides of age
turning another page
to see the days lengthen like tall shadows on the lawn
before the light came back on

And I dreamed tonight
I was a child again, learning to land
striving always to somehow understand
everything
oh simplicity
that was life back then
that was the door I left half open
so that the fresh, young air would flow back into me
imbue it on me
yes I dreamed tonight I'm back to being me
running down West 34th Avenue and Wolff Street
full speed
looking for me
fading with the blue
looking for something true

since your hammer struck my heart" -XTC

Reminds me of the song...reeling in the years, but I like your rendition a whole lot more.
I especially enjoyed what you said about the tall shadows on the lawn.

As always you are a pleasure to read...
