Drowning Sun

Acetylene sky
see the drowning sun thrash against the tide
bringing down the curtain on the day
let there be nothing in your way
for you to seep through the cracks of my summer dreams
strange as it seems,
I've always and ever been setting it right
picture you in perfect light
reverse the image to see you walking back to me
s'all I wanna see
when the bell strikes five and the day is done
see me swishing 'round the glass like a drowning sun

Cadmium dawn
see the drowning sun burn bright until it's gone
clarion call announces the eveningside
let love roll on a tremendous tide
for you I'll always be walking the blue summer shore
even in a downpour,
sheltering candles like a cloak of night
see you set like a light
go on shimmering over this scene without pity
s'all I wanna see
when the stars begin to dwindle down to one
see me sinking beneath the waves like a drowning sun

Downward to the ocean floor
where this light is heading for
to turn the sea into a dreamlike vista of green
bright as springtime and as beautiful as a dream
envision you walking back to me
all I need to see
wishing upon every vague and apathetic star
to trace the path back to where you are
it's like raising the Titanic
and just for fun
here's another trick
pulling up the drowning sun
set it back in the sky
see the light return in glory
when you come
when you come back

Acetylene sky
see the drowning sun reflected on the tide
cadmium dawn
see the drowning sun almost ready to move on
ready for the return to glory
when you come
when you come back to me
s'all I wanna see
when the bell strikes five and the day is done
and the stars begin to dwindle down to one
see me
oh I hope you see me
and maybe only you can save me from sinking
like a drowning sun
only when you come
when you come

since your hammer struck my heart" -XTC

There is just so much to like/love about your poetry, this is another classic piece from you.  I gave up a long time ago trying to pick my favorite lines.

Be well soul drifter, and please don't ever put your pen down.

A masterpiece, soul drifter.  My heart goes out to you.
