Blowing smoke |

He blew rings for me wrote my name on the sky a marquise of mixed letters from a cauldron of smoke that rose from his mouth his kiss of confetti flavored with sea salt and Benson & Hedges it was south of the boardwalk by the whirl of the carousel at the ocean's reception we were just turning 20. |

Sometimes the insertion of something very specific and of a time fixes a poem in a way nothing else does. This poem, I think, needed Benson & Hedges. I had forgotten B&H. I know I smoked it, 'cuz I smoke anything I could get my hands on in those days . . . Thanks for the snapshot. |
