silly silly silly me

to think my love

is comforting

to think my love

means any thing

at all to you

in sweat drench sheets

at three a.m.

then three-o-one

tick tock

tick tock

the angel comes

in style,

old testament.

Oh, my love,

the loneliness

of these nights

as if to test

your will

your troth

tick tock

assess

the angels come

new testament.

You touch your face

and find it cold,

despite the embers

of your bones

chatter-chatter

teeth in clench

the battlefield

your bed and this?

Your mighty-tiny fragile fist,

I kiss.

I hum the tune

that is your wish

to have a river

full of fish

applauding you

with rainbow fins

etching eights on ice

in flight

free in grace

and spiraling

mid-air

it's there

no pain exists.

Dream you sweet

my love, goodnight.

I'll be here

tomorrow night.

Rest your skates;

lean into me.

I'll pivot

as you fly

in bliss

such beauty

in your silhouette

in harmony with sky.

Thank you, and our Helen is among the regrets I have about de-activating my Facebook account.

If someone is in touch with her? Tell her she owes me a phone call, k?

*smile*

And I owe HER a whole lotta love.

Thank you all for reading.

I had worried about posting this poem, but as was her way, she phoned me to thank me--and now I'm so grateful that I did so--our last words to each other were "I love you."

I'm already missing you my Helen.

No more pain for you baby...

Beautifully written Karen. It's lovely you were able to reach out and speak with Helen to share your thoughts and I Love You's last month. What a wonderful memory to cherish today, and always.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

If you note the time of day this was posted, there is a little story about that. I had been given a higher dosage pf an antiviral which made me feel weirder than usual and I had a high fever. It broke, and I wrote this, not deliberately in her style, but as I told her later, that I felt her presence so intensely that I didn't feel like I'd written this at all...

She sounded so good, Kit. A fierce but loving warrior and a dear friend to all has been taken from us. She had told me she had some exciting news and I should wait for her next call.

I will, Helen. I will.

If anyone can break through the mystery veil, it would be you.

What a gift to us all she has been.

My condolences to her family, especially her sons of whom she was so proud.

*touching the screen*

I'll have church for you tonight, dear Helen.

Lady G,

if I have learned anything in my losses, and especially those that transcended these halls of blue, our poets do reach out and touch us, and we will continue to write to them, of them, and shared with others what they meant to us.

In that way, we honor not only our care, love, and intimacies of them with others, but we also honor them as the poets who taught us so much.

My time away from PiP was for many and varied reasons....

it is time to return, and take in all of the love we have ever had for one another. And to learn even more of what makes a poet tick.

Helen will never quit ticking, I'm sure, in all of our hearts.

You were so inspired when you wrote this really. Enjoyed reading it again. It was so good that you had that last conversation with Helen. Yes, we shall continue to be connected.

Love and hugs.
Margherita
