Remember rockets red glare
bombs bursting in air
gave threw the night that our flag is still there.

Those who have fought
some giving their lives
as a price to pay for peace
have for the most part been forgotten
in America where Memorial Day Sales
and barbeque is the order of the day.

Those rockets red glare bursting in the air
Are falling on deaf ears where no one cares.

Those who have been born free in this land of the free
say a prayer even if you don't pray
for those who fought and died for you and me.

Don't close your eyes and listen not
as the sound of wars which kept you free were fought.

Let liberty forever be ours
be grateful you are where you are.

This Memorial Day stand tall and bow your head
for the men and women who for you have bled.

Eloquent words from you on this Memorial Day, dear Jerry. Words to ponder indeed.

I was also surprised to read some announcements of Memorial Day Sales!! Everything must be turned into business it seems.

You have written a very sensitive poem.

Peace.

Just starting my day here in California and was hoping to come across a Memorial Day poem and here you are...  Thank you!

I join you in bowing my head in prayer, my friend, and in standing tall within the liberties we enjoy because of the ultimate sacrifice given by those who put our lives before theirs and served with the highest level of dignity and respect that one can give another.  Amen.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

Thanks again, Jerry!

Oh no, thank YOU, Bob, for being who you are and understanding what this day means and how to explain it. Your comments are sterling. Thank you again.
