Spectre I begged for mercy at the end of my dream. Begged to wake-up and find out I was still alive, because Death had grabbed my soul and was twisting it, unmercifully. And the pain. The pain was unbearable, Death's scythe firmly lodged against my final breath, begging me to breathe, one more time. I cried. Nothing had prepared me for this. Nothing . . . I screamed! The agony ripped across my chest . . . We have a pulse, doctor. Blood pressure's coming up. 80/40 . . . 90/60, 110/70 Thank God, I heard the doctor say. Thank God. © wesley james beard, jr. may 2013 |

I remember passing out in the doctor's waiting room a few years ago and it wasn't a dream. I could tell the doctor and a lot of people were around me, and hearing the doctor say, "I can't find a pulse, I CAN'T FIND A PULSE! In my mind I thought I was going to die. So you wrote one that is very personal to me. ~*~ The Energizer bunny was arrested and charged with battery. ~*~ |

I have never felt this, J, but your poem put me there, right next to the doctor. Well done, Ms. E |

Powerful and "scary" write, Jimmy. Haven't been there either but your words do bring it home Ida |
